When is the next meeting between US and Russia?
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke for a brief moment on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit, with the Russian leader offering congratulations on the meeting, and saying that the US-Russia relationship was stronger than ever before.
The US leader also told Putin that the two countries had a good working relationship.
“We agreed to deepen cooperation in a number of areas, such as trade, defense, technology and cybersecurity, and we will continue to cooperate on these issues,” Mr Trump said in a statement.
“In this regard, we agreed to extend to Russia a number.
We have also extended a series of economic and financial cooperation programs.”
Mr Trump’s statement came as US-Russian relations have been shaken by a series the probes into Russian interference in the 2016 election, allegations of Russian interference and possible collusion between Moscow and Mr Trump campaign associates.
Mr Trump also made clear that he was willing to work with Russia to combat global warming.
“The two countries have a great working relationship on issues such as climate change, and in particular, in combating global warming,” he said.
“This is something that we both agree upon.
I think it is a very good thing.”
Mr Putin also praised Mr Trump for his performance during his trip to the Group Of 20 summit.
“I think this trip was very successful, in terms of the bilateral ties and the level of cooperation,” he told reporters.
“He has done a great job.”
Mr Tillerson had also said earlier in the day that he expected the US and Russian leaders to discuss “major issues” at the summit in Hamburg.
